This activity is a good starting point for a discussion on gender stereotyping and inequality in media coverage, and to approach the concept of feminist media analysis.
Participants are asked to examine one aspect (genre) of media, namely media sport. They have been supplied with several random newspapers and you should go to the sports section and begin your analysis for instance:

“Power control theory teaches us that those who have power in an institution or organisation determine its ideology. The current ideology supporting sports organisations and media coverage seek to preserve a gendered social structure of values so that these organisations can maintain stasis or control in their environment.”
